Discussion of Case 12:

This is the mirror of case 11. It is easy from the FR and BL. From the FR, it is tempting to solve this case intuitively as y U L' U2 L U' y' R U R', but this solution isn't ideal, as it requires two cube rotations. A much better approach is to momentarily ignore the slot in the BR and use R' U2 R2 U R', which will solve the pair. If you're having a hard time seeing where this algorithm comes from, you should read the discussion for case 11. This solution will disturb the (potentially solved) F2L pair in the BR, but luckily, it can be fixed with R' U R. The two algorithms combine to form R' U2 R2 U R2 U R, which is the most important solution to this case.

Another nice solution is R U' R' U R U' R' U2 R U' R'. In essence, R U' R' reduces this case to case 33. The rest of the algorithm is a smooth and intuitive solution to this case (which will be discussed soon!).

This case is handled equally well from the BL with the mirrors of the algorithms discussed so far. From the other two angles (FL and BR), it's best to do a single cube rotation (y or y') and use FR/BL algorithms.
