A Glass Dragonfly

Feedback Received!

During this season's shopping
I came across a gift, I knew
was perfect for you

So I wrapped it neatly with
the nicest paper I could find
and topped it with a bow

I drove to your new home
surrounded by flowers
and fresh cut grass

Laid the present by your side
and wished you "Merry Christmas"

My Body

Feedback Received!

I hate my soft, sloping chin
how it disappears into my doughy neck
I hate the jiggle of my arms
as the heavy flesh hangs from the bone

I hate how my breasts sag with weight
and rest on top of my stomach
I hate how the skin in-between gets
sticky and itchy and hot

I hate that my belly is broken in two
like an invisible wire is wrapped
around my waist at the navel
trying to cut me in half

I hate the speed bumps on my back
created by tight bra straps that
squeeze fat out from under them
leaving my skin stretched and sore

I hate that my thighs rub together
and the friction tears through my pants
and the friction tears through my legs
till I

Waiting

Feedback Received!

What do we do on the days when we feel small and broken,
when we can't be reached by the sun's warmth
and the air feels unfit for breathing?

How do we move when even the Autumn trees
add weight to our burdened heart,
when human touch causes more disconnection,
and all the things that should bring us solace now seem ineffective?

We wait, and wait, for a kinder day.

Victoria

Feedback Received!

As we lay together, shoulder to shoulder,
our warmth spread out around us;
our shared security blanket.

My gaze danced around the curls of her hair,
hovered over the olive skin of her cheeks,
rested in her deep brown eyes,
and settled on her lips.

“You can kiss me, if you want.”

Her words echoed in my chest,
bouncing between my
heart and lungs.

Her voice; the only sound
I had ever heard.

I pressed my trembling lips against hers,
and learned what it feels like to be the lightning.

But then, a darkness filled my mind,
deep shame drove away the warmth
and threw me into icy waters.

If this is a sin, I am tainting her with my love.

Reflection

Feedback Received!

In class, but,
under water.
muffled sounds,
blurred visions.
Can't...breathe.

My thoughts
are far away.
On top of the
parking garage,
where I'd been,
just days before,
ready to fall.

The walls close
around me, the
ceiling flattens
me against floor.

"Stand up!"

Walk through the hall
with the walls that
are hazy, they
keep,
keep moving
back and forth and
up and down and
since when do walls
move?

In the bathroom.
"Stop. Look in the mirror."

Who is that
and why
is she staring
and why
do I feel cold
looking back
into her eyes?

Is that me?
My reflection?
But, what if
it moves and
the eyes close and

Missing Christmas

Feedback Received!

Memories of a child’s Christmas:
I would wait for Mom to fill the
Stockings, then, in the quiet of night
Sneak into the living room, wrapped
In blankets, and carrying pillows.
Nestled beside presents, under the
Glistening tree, I would fall asleep.

Come morning, I would sleep until I
Heard my sisters making a joyful
Ruckus, dressed and picture ready
In their best pajamas.
Sitting here, remembering all these
Times we shared together, I can’t help
Missing the childlike excitement and
Anticipation I always felt when I
Slept beneath that Christmas tree.

Blanket Monster

Feedback Request

My happiest memory:
I am small and facing a gentle giant
disguised as the mighty blanket monster,
my arch nemesis.

I stare, calculate my chances,
plant my feet on the bed,
give my loudest ROAR!
and
JUMP
right onto the back of my frumpy foe.

With a "Huff!"
the mass buckles under my weight,
and flattens on the bed, still and silent.
This beast was no match for me!
I've won!

Then, the earthquake starts.

Shake
Shake
SHAKE!

I fly in the air!
My stomach does a flip,
a scream knocking at my lips
the bed is racing towards my face
just before impact, he catches me in his arms.

He pulls me close, and holds me tightly to his chest.
