Friday Spotlight: C0me_at_me_br0

The weekend is here again and between massive meals, black Friday shopping, and stressing about the holidays, I welcome you all to sit a spell and read up about this week's featured Spotlight athlete. Before we get into it, I've got to say that over the last year, I've personally gotten to know our highlighted runner and he's become a great friend. We battled it out together at an ultra in North Carolina and he's crewed for me in Illinois. He's even making the trip to Indiana this summer so we can race together again. He's a member of our Black Mountain Monster Ultra team and quickly became a 'br0ther fr0m an0ther m0ther'. We're too similar to each other to just not be br0's. This guy is a class act and a solid character. Now sticking with the holiday theme, I'd like to share with all of you this week's Spotlight runner. Pilgrims and Indians it's time for .... u/c0me_at_me_br0!

Let's do this...

What’s your comfy pace?

My long runs are in the neighborhood of 8:15-8:20

How long have you been running?

For the military, ten years. Recreational side, about three and half.

Tell us why you began running?

Had to, 'cause Army. But for rec running an Army peer of mine convinced me to do a trail half a few years back and it has been my favorite hobby since!

Most memorable running moment?

Our teams dominating at Black Mountain Monster this year!

Do you have a running mantra?

"You can live a life of what-ifs by never reaching for your goals, but you will learn and experience through success and failure by trying." I kinda just made that up. Basically one of those "don't be afraid of failure" things.

What time of day do you prefer to run?

More like what time of day do I not prefer to run!

Any big races coming up?

On the waitlist for a 50k on New Year's Eve, doing a 50 miler in March, and a 12 hour timed event in May.

What are your short-term running goals?

1-3 years? Ok, 1-3 years. I still have to get my first 100 in the books. I missed my two opportunities this year.

What are your long-term running goals?

Hit the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning, run Boston, and maybe a few international ultras.

What’s one piece of running advice you’d give to the younger version of yourself?

You aren't getting any younger. Go do more fun events dude!

What is something you need to work on to become a better runner?

Actually following structured mileage plans with detailed runs/workouts (which I am doing currently.) Not only does it ease the boredom but it keeps the weeks interesting.

What is your current shoe choice?

Hoka Clifton 2s, Newton Motion IVs and Fates, Montrail Masochists, Altra Olympus

Trail? Road? Track? Or Treadmill?

Trail and road! I prefer trail races because of the community. The road is just more convenient to where I live for training.

What is your ideal running weather?

Cool, crisp mornings with a low dew point and a light breeze :)

Do you have any social media accounts you’d like to share? [Facebook, Strava, Twitter]

Most of you guys already follow me on Strava as it is.

###Just For Fun:

What’s your spirit animal?

Fox, because I still haven't figured out what the fox says.

What hobbies and interests do you have besides running?

Creative writing and social experiments.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Well I just found out I can eat a dozen donuts, run really fast really far, and not throw up.

Biggest pet peeve?

People who don't use their blinkers. Come on!

Dream job! What would it be?

Asteroid miner

Favorite Quote or Poem?

Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

What is your favorite movie?

The Lion King

What is your biggest character flaw?

I love chocolate too much for my own damn good.

What songs have you been listening to recently?

A lot of 90s alt-rock (think Buzz Ballads) on my iPad.

What are some of your favorite non-running subreddits?

/r/army, r/CFB, r/writingprompts

###One Last Question:

What is the origin of your username?

I saw a picture of a spider on Reddit some years back that was meme'd as "Come at me Bro!"

That's it folks! Have a great weekend and enjoy the run.

####Thanks for reading everyone!!!
