Isekai Campaign Episode 13 - The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!

Previously on The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!:

Four Japanese High School students were hit by a truck and brought to a magical world called Risturan by Bruni, the Goddess of Fate to be her champions. The party was invited to the birthday ball for Primri, the daughter of Baron Filmelon, whom the party had rescued from bandits. Unfortunately, the party doesn't have any fancy dress and Tobe is allergic to fish, which is a challenge because all the cuisine in Filmelon is fish-based. The Baroness offered to help solve both these problems.

Our heroes:

• Sato - carries a katana and dreams of being a samurai
• Tobe - carries a bow and enjoys tracking and sneaking
• Okita - has two companion animals, a spark rabbit named Yokai-chan and a wind hawk named Riku-chan, and enjoys the creepy things
• Akuto - wannabe gangster who talks with his fists

Together they are The Mourning Cloaks, a bronze level adventuring party.

Tonight's session:

The party met Primri and the Baroness at a fancy restaurant and were introduced to a novel new dish from the south called a "hamburger," composed of:

• a diced meat patty (practically a sausage)
• lettuce,
• sliced cucumber
• sliced carrots
• mayonnaise
• mustard
• hearty bread roll

Akuto was upset that there was no ketchup. The baroness summoned a waiter, who had never heard of ketchup or tomatoes. Akuto attempted to give him a recipe for a ketchup based on apples, which the waiter took to the chef. The chef sent his apologies that he would not be able to serve a condiment that he had not tested, but sent an apple vinegar and pickle relish and asked the customer to come back in a week. Akuto was satisfied - for now - and promised to be back in a week. The rest of the party wondered if the existence of hamburgers meant that there were other people summoned from Earth like they had been.

The baroness then brought them to "Raib Family Dressmakers and Haberdashers" to get fitted for dresses for the party. In the workshop, they discovered that in the absence of mechanical sewing machines, the workers were using trained spiders to sew cloth together, and that all the tailors of the Raib clan were beastmasters like Okita, only bonded to spiders. The clan matriarch, Babak Raib took care of the girls in the party personally, while Akuto was helped by one of her sons. Babak Raib's own spiders started taking measurements of the girls, to varied reactions. At a hint from Primri, the baroness was led to another room to look at some dresses she had ordered. After she left, Babak Raib asked the girls how they wanted their dresses altered for hidden weapons. She said that she knew that adventurers don't like to be far from their weapons, but that the baroness generally doesn't approve of such things, so they would keep it a secret from her. Primri showed off her own hidden daggers, and Babak Raib said that hidden weapons were the only way to make Primri wear a dress when she was younger.

Akuto's only specifications on his clothes were that he wanted removable sleeves, or no sleeves at all. The tailor said he knew how brawlers were, and would make him a nice sleeveless doublet with loose sleeves on his shirt.

After the haberdasher's, the baroness led the party to the apothecary, who informed Tobe that while she had the potion to cure fish allergies in children, as most residents of Filmelon get fish allergies resolved when young, Tobe's age would complicate things and she would need an extra ingredient. Tobe would need to fetch the liver oil of a certain cod that can only be found by an island about 20 miles off the cost of Filmelon. Tobe was not excited for this, as she had a phobia of deep waters. The baroness and Primri suggested they ask a sea captain they know by the name of Rostbar to take them out.

Lessons:

• It's okay to cut a session short if you've run out of material. This is even less of a problem if you're playing remotely and people just need to log off rather than drive all the way home.
• If your players catch you off guard and you need to figure out the result of their actions, it's okay to ask for a moment to think of what happens. Rather than being upset that she had to wait, my player was pleased she had stumped me. I'm not Brendan Lee Mulligan, I can't improvise as quickly as he can...yet.
