Friday Spotlight: JKrusas
Got another Spotlight for all you faithful readers! I'm not out racing this time so I finally had a chance to post this at regular time on the right date! Today's spotlight runner is another one of those names that you see coming and going. I've had the pleasure of chatting with him numerous times but never really got the chance to know today's highlighted runner much more than general running chit-chat. How long have you been running?
I sparked to running when I was in a Cub Scout day camp. Joined my junior high cross country team and was terrible. Ran for fun through college and post-college. Got serious eight years ago.
Tell us why you began running?
I was laid off and really needed something, anything, to fill my time. I had always enjoyed running, and Chicago has a great lakefront path, so I started taking it seriously.
Most memorable running moment?
Finishing my first half marathon. I felt really great, like I could have run it again. The other memorable moment was when I told my now-husband and his family that I wanted to run a marathon, and everyone except my sister in law laughed like it was a ridiculous goal.
Do you have a running mantra?
Generally I'm listening to the lyrics of whatever song is playing on my running mix
What time of day do you prefer to run?
I usually run after work. It's a chance for me to unwind after a long day and enjoy the sights along the lake.
Any big races coming up?
Soldier Field 10, Rock and Roll Half, and the Chicago marathon.
What are your short-term running goals?
I need to get my base back. I had a really lazy winter and I feel like Homer Simpson jiggling along on the treadmill.
What are your long-term running goals?
I used to say I'm chasing a BQ, but at this point in my life I think that's not going to happen. I'll be thrilled to break 3:30 (but I suspect that won't happen either)
What’s one piece of running advice you’d give to the younger version of yourself?
Get serious about running. I think I took it for granted for so long and now that I'm older, I wish I knew what I could have accomplished back then.
What is something you need to work on to become a better runner?
Everything. I'm a very lazy runner. I need to do more sprints and tempo and find some hills...all of it.
What is your current shoe choice?
For the past three years I've run in Ons but once I got it into my brain that they were heavy, they felt like cement blocks tied to my feet. Right now I'm running in some Nike Vomero 11s that I like. I have a pair of Saucony Freedoms that I'll bust out later this summer when the Nikes are shot.
Trail? Road? Track? Or Treadmill?
I guess I should count the lakefront running path as a road, as it's paved.
What is your ideal running weather?
low 70s, no humidity, sunny, light breeze.

Oh, god, that's too much pressure. I'm on Facebook and Twitter and Nike Running but honestly I post so infrequently and I'm so boring that I don't think anyone would want to follow me.

What’s your spirit animal?
I took a quiz just for this question! And got a turtle. A freaking turtle. That's just dandy. Goodbye, self-esteem.
What hobbies and interests do you have besides running?
I do some weight training. Avid reader. Love love love classic movies, especially pre-Code movies. I like to travel but don't get to do much of it.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I can talk myself out of anything. You didn't say it had to be a good or a useful talent.
Biggest pet peeve?
I have several: people staring at their phones when they're walking on the sidewalk or running path; people who don't move back in an elevator to make room for others; people who don't use their inside voices when they're inside...that's really the holy trinity of my peeves. I guess they can all be boiled down to "inconsiderate people"
Dream job! What would it be?
Ideally, I want to be one of the idle rich, so, I guess "world's runningest billionaire." Since that ship has sailed, I guess my next-best dream job would be reference librarian. I'm a know-it-all at heart and I love the "treasure hunt" of finding information

What is your biggest character flaw?
I jump to conclusions way too easily. I also pepper my speech and writing with far too many Simpsons quotes.
What songs have you been listening to recently?
I run with music (I know, I know, I'm history's greatest monster) so on my running mix now: Alex Newell "Kill the Lights", Robyn "Do It Again", and the greatest running song ever, Mariah Carey "We Belong Together Peter Rauhofer Reconstruction Club Mix"

What is the origin of your username?
This is a little embarrassing, but it's just my name. I came to reddit originally to get free in-game currency for a game I play (The Simpsons: Tapped Out). I never thought I'd stick around so I signed up as me.
