Isekai Campaign Episode 16 - The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!

Previously on The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!:

Four Japanese High School students were hit by a truck and brought to a magical world called Risturan by Bruni, the Goddess of Fate to be her champions. While checking on their dresses for the upcoming ball, they discovered that three of the seamstresses and their sewing spiders were kidnapped. Their kidnappers left behind a trident. Tobe tracked a spider's thread down to the docks, where Akuto got in a fight.

Our heroes:

• Sato - carries a katana and dreams of being a samurai
• Tobe - carries a bow and enjoys tracking and sneaking
• Okita - has two companion animals, a spark rabbit named Yokai-chan and a wind hawk named Riku-chan, and enjoys the creepy things
• Akuto - wannabe gangster who talks with his fists

Together they are The Mourning Cloaks, a silver level adventuring party.

Tonight's session:

Akuto was met outside the tavern by a man named Siilder who wanted to buy him a drink because he'd won two gold betting on Akuto's fight. Said he figured Akuto was one of those "Nori Monks" and would win the fight (Nori is another land the party has heard about where people supposedly look like them). In the tavern, Tobe spotted some men who look like they'd been attacked by spiders. She bought them drinks (that she drugged) and started flirting with them to find out their story. They told her they worked on The Triumph and hinted they were into smuggling. Eventually the men were led off by their first mate, who carried a trident, because "Captain Strogno wants to set off at high tide." Tobe followed them at a distance, and Okita set her hawk to track them as well. She followed them as far as a dock where they got into a rowboat to head to their ship.

Meanwhile, Akuto kept pouring his drink into Siilder's mug when he wasn't looking. He offered to trade his trident (the one left behind in the haberdashery) for Siilder's coat. Siilder offered to bet the coat against the trident in a game of dice. Akuto won and accepted the coat. Before Akuto left, Siilder asked why he was interested in the men from the Triumph. After some whispered conversation, they came to the understanding that Siilder was with a group that wanted to make sure the Triumph didn't leave the bay, and if Akuto wanted to help, they should get to the Manta Ray before high tide.

The party met up and made it to the Manta Ray, which was the ship they sailed on with Captain Rostbar (see episode 14) the previous day. They discovered that Captain Rostbar and his crew were privateers, who specialized in fighting pirates and smugglers. They set sail for the Triumph, and Captain Rostbar explained that the best fighters on the ship were called the Tridents, because Captain Strogno presented them with tridents when they had proved themselves.

At the Triumph, they used the Manta Ray's ballista to destroy the Triumph's rudder, then boarded. Captain Strogno immediately locked swords, excuse me, locked trident with Captain Rostbar. The Mourning Cloaks and the Manta Ray's crew all fought well, but the day was finally resolved when Okita's spark rabbit, Yokai-chan, managed to deliver a shock tackle to Captain Strogno, paralyzing him long enough for Captain Rostbar and Siilder to subdue him. The rest of the crew surrendered after that. The missing seamstresses were found below, along with a cache of medicinal herbs and drugs ready to be smuggled. They were returned to their family, and it was a joyful and tearful reunion.

Lessons learned:

• You can prepare all you want, but they will still catch you off guard. All you can do is be flexible and ask them to give you a moment while you figure out what happens next.
• Make finding the clues easy. Your party still needs to figure out what to do with them.
• When a dramatic and/or hilarious moment to end a fight/battle presents itself, take it! (Particularly if it's late and everyone is tired)
