Friday Spotlight: TripleBogey25
Hello all you amazing people! We're back again this week with another good ol' fashion Friday Spotlight. Today's featured runner is a name I've come across but not had the pleasure of talking to much. With as much time as some of us spend around here it's nice to meet a new face. With that said, let's get to it as I announce today's Spotlight runner... u/TripleBogey25!
Let's do this...
###The Runner:
First Name?
Jake
Age?
25
Where are you from?
Raleigh, NC
Occupation?
Heavy Equipment Sales
###Running Q&A's:
What are your PR’s?
5k - 24:14
10k - 51:42
Half-Marathon - 1:52:13
What is your distance PR?
16 miles
What’s your highest recorded weekly mileage?
37 miles, although I have been hovering between 34-37 miles for the last few weeks and am looking to increase this shortly.
What’s your comfy pace?
Anywhere from 9:00-9:30 depending on how fresh my legs are.
How long have you been running?
Approximately 2.5 years.
Tell us why you began running?
I gained some unwanted weight in college and decided to get off of my ass and lose it. After telling my dad (who is a runner and triathlete) for years that I would hate running, it turns out that after I dedicated a little time to it I loved it.
Most memorable running moment?
Either running my first half marathon with my fiancee or running in a local 10k race with my dad where we both crossed the finish line together.
Do you have a running mantra?
"The difference between winning and losing is not quitting." - Walt Disney
What time of day do you prefer to run?
Afternoon but, I desperately wish I could get up in the early morning hours and run.
Any big races coming up?
I just did the Rock n Roll Raleigh Half a couple of weeks ago and I have the NCRC half marathon in Umstead towards the end of May. I will probably continue adding mileage over the summer and into the fall with my eyes on either another couple of half marathons or a full marathon.
What are your short-term running goals?
Sub 1:45:00 half, 4:00:00 full. More importantly though, staying healthy and continuing to enjoy my running.
What are your long-term running goals?
Run more trails, run a 50k/50miler/100k/100miler at some point in time.
What’s one piece of running advice you’d give to the younger version of yourself?
Running only sucks for the first couple of weeks. After that you will start to love it!!
What is something you need to work on to become a better runner?
I need to learn when to take a break and that it is OK to take a break. I have a hard time listening to my body when it needs to rest for a day.
What is your current shoe choice?
Currently in the Hoka Tracers but, they are nearing the end of their life. I believe I will give the Hoka Hupana a try next. Before Hoka, I ran in a few different pairs of Nike Frees.
Trail? Road? Track? Or Treadmill?
A good mixture of trail and road. A lot of the trail I currently run on is bridle trail though and it is a goal of mine to add more singletrack to the mix.
What is your ideal running weather?
60-65 degrees F, sunny with a slight breeze that is somehow always at my back. \
###Just For Fun:
What’s your spirit animal?
Wolf
What hobbies and interests do you have besides running?
Hiking with my dog, mountain biking, trying new food, exploring new cities, and NC State Athletics.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I can eat an incredible amount of food.
Biggest pet peeve?
Being pumped all day for a run and then realizing as I get home that I forgot to put all of my running shorts in the dryer so they are sitting wet in the washing machine and I need to dry them before I can do anything.
Dream job! What would it be?
Somebody paying me to travel all around the world and experience all different cultures and cities. I'm not sure why they would pay me for this but, it is my dream dammit.
What is your biggest character flaw?
Being extremely stubborn.
What songs have you been listening to recently?
Sway by Household, a lot of random Modest Mouse, the new albums from J Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
What are some of your favorite non-running subreddits?
/r/AskReddit, r/Raleigh, r/Bullcity, r/CollegeBasketball
###One Last Question:
What is the origin of your username?
I used to really enjoy golfing but, I was awful at it. Hence the username TripleBogey and me no longer liking golf.
That's it folks! Have a great weekend and enjoy the miles.
