Isekai Campaign Episode 17 - The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!
Previously on The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!:
Four Japanese High School students were hit by a truck and brought to a magical world called Risturan by Bruni, the Goddess of Fate to be her champions. After discovering that three granddaughters of the dressmaker, Babak Raib, were kidnapped, they rescued them from vicious smugglers.
Our heroes:
- Sato - carries a katana and dreams of being a samurai
- Tobe - carries a bow and enjoys tracking and sneaking
- Okita - has two companion animals, a spark rabbit named Yokai-chan and a wind hawk named Riku-chan, and enjoys the creepy things
- Akuto - wannabe gangster who talks with his fists
Together they are The Mourning Cloaks, a silver level adventuring party.
Tonight's session:
During breakfast, the party received a message from Babak Raib asking them to visit her. They began the day with dance and etiquette lessons from Baroness Filmelon. Tobe and Akuto did well with both. Sato and Okita did better with the etiquette than the day before, but tripped over their own feet while learning to dance.
When they visited Babak Raib, she kissed them all on the forehead and brought them all into her office. She thanked them profusely for saving her granddaughters and asked if there was anything she could do for them. Okita, knowing that the clan's sewing spiders probably weren't suited for a life of adventure, asked if she could come visit and play with the spiders sometime. Babak Raib asked if they trusted in fate, as they all wear the butterfly, the sigil of Bruni, goddess of fate. They said that they did. She revealed her ears, which were pointed, and said that she was an elf, the servant of Sinama Ro, goddess of life and nature. She told them that the Raib clan knew everything there was to know about spiders, and could tell from the eggs whether they would be good at sewing or not (at this, Okita started to shake). She opened a box with a single spider's egg wrapped in silk and said that they knew it would not be good at sewing, but her servitude to Sinama Ro forbade her from disposing of the egg. She asked if Okita would "care for this child." Okita accepted the commission. Tobe asked if, as an elf, she knew of any undiscovered places. Babak Raib suggested the mountains, in the lands of the elves. Tobe revealed to her friends that she had met Kukek, the God of Adventure, who had given her a charge to "seek the unknown."
Next, Primri (the daughter of Baron Filmelon) took them to Filmelon Academy, both to introduce them to her brother, Waiyu and because Sato wanted to visit the library and learn what she could about Nori, the land the people of Groseri thought the Mourning Cloaks were from based on their appearance. While there, they met Professor Wellig, whom they had met previously at the Pantheon Council (see Episode 12). He introduced them to Professor Itolan, who had also heard the theory that Bruni's symbol was the butterfly because of the story that a butterfly might cause a hurricane. He promised to look up where he had read that, if they would help teach a seminar that afternoon on adventuring (the group that was supposed to teach it had gone on a quest with short notice).
After that, they met Waiyu, Primri's 12 year old brother in the library behind a stack of books as he was performing calculations on magic circles. He acted as an interrupted academic at first, but when he learned he was meeting the Mourning Cloaks, who had saved his sister's life, he became more formal and acted as the son of nobility he was. After the introductions, Professor Wellig led the party to the geography section and helped them find a book about Nori.
Lessons learned:
- In addition to having a large list of available names for NPC's, also prepare a list of place names in advance if you haven't designed the entire world yet. Your players will inevitably want to know where something happened.
- Pay attention to what the PCs want in the game, and that will give you ideas for quests for them. Plus, you will feel like Santa Claus when you see the look on the player's face when you present the character with their deepest desires.
