Friday Spotlight: Tipsy_Topsy

Weekly Thread

##Today's highlighted runner will be in and out during the thread due to work. Don't let this stop you from asking her some amazing questions though! I've been informed that she will get to them as soon as she can and she's looking forward to responding.

We've put in yet another week of hard work. Why not give our legs a break and settle in for the newest Friday Spotlight?! I was surprised when I received her name for nomination because I was sure I'd highlighted her before. I always like finding out who's up to bat next for the Spotlight in this manner. Anyways, enough about moi. Let's take some time to learn about this week's featured runner. Ladies and gents... u/Tipsy_Topsy

###The Runner:

First Name?

Gwen

Age?

33

Where are you from?

Rio Rancho, NM

Occupation?

Audit manager at a CPA firm. Sounds more boring than it is. Long hours and deadlines though. And some travel.

###Running Q&A's:

What are your PR’s?

5k: 27:34
10k: 58:50
Half: 2:13:x
Full:5:10:xx

What is your distance PR?

26.5 on watch in a full.

What’s your highest recorded weekly mileage?

73.1

What’s your comfy pace?

12:00 to 12:30

How long have you been running?

4 years or so?

Tell us why you began running?

Lost a lot of weight and started walking. Figured it'd be faster if I jogged a little. Then found c25k and proper shoes and didn't stop.

Most memorable running moment?

Some random run, don't remember when or what time of day or the weather. 4 miles in and just felt amazing, like I could go forever.

Do you have a running mantra?

Not really a mantra, but "just keep going". Or "fuck fuck fuck fuck" depending on the day.

What time of day do you prefer to run?

Anything except midday in the summer is fine.

Any big races coming up?

Eagle Up! Then probably a local 50k in September. And doing a relay team for the local marathon in October with people from work.

What are your short-term running goals?

100k at EU, not die at EU, have fun at EU

What are your long-term running goals?

More trails. More longer distances. I have my ankle that's pretty fucked up from a childhood injury so idk if I'll ever be fast; podiatrist isn't too hopeful about restoring the full range of motion, and whatever solution would be surgical and $$$. So instead of speed I want to go long. Try out 50ks and more around here. Eventually find a 100 with a generous cutoff.

What’s one piece of running advice you’d give to the younger version of yourself?

If you think you're fat put on a pair of shoes and go run. Join a sport. Put down the fucking cigarette. Don't try those drugs. Get your ankle fixed. Don't marry that fucker.

What is something you need to work on to become a better runner?

Speed. Speed. Speed. After EU, I will have to get some more speed work going on. Probably lose 15-20 lbs but it's hard to get back into calorie counting and the runger rules my life.

What is your current shoe choice?

Brooks adrenaline, NB 860 and 870

Trail? Road? Track? Or Treadmill?

Love trail but road is quicker and I'm super busy. So mostly road.

What is your ideal running weather?

50 and patchy clouds. Low humidity and a breeze.

Do you have any social media accounts you’d like to share? [Facebook, Strava, Twitter]

Strava

###Just For Fun:

What’s your spirit animal?

The pug that can't feckin run.

What hobbies and interests do you have besides running?

Cooking, baking, reading, video games. But between work and running and teenage daughter not much time. I get really into history podcasts.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Double jointed elbows. Freaks people out when I bend my arms backwards.

Biggest pet peeve?

Drivers, whether I'm running or driving. New Mexico rainstorms that just cover my car in dirt. People, who dont use, comma's, and apostrophe's properly. At least in professional communication. Lets at least look like we can write in proper English.

Dream job! What would it be?

My job with fee hours and no clients. And a raise. Like double.

Favorite Quote or Poem?

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. Or So long and thanks for all the fish. I just really like Douglas Adams.

What is your favorite movie?

Boondocks Saints. The cat gets me every time.

What is your biggest character flaw?

Stubborn, sarcastic and a foul mouth

What songs have you been listening to recently?

Hamilton soundtrack. Rancid, Dropkick Murphys (seeing both in Denver this summer!), Bad Religion, Green Day, the offspring, sublime. So that hasn't changed since like 1998. But my younger self would roll her eyes at Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, etc. Also got into Lily Allen.

What are some of your favorite non-running subreddits?

r/AskHistorians r/AskScienceFiction r/gametales r/HFY/ r/unsolvedmysteries

###One Last Question:

What is the origin of your username?

My daughter went through a my little pony phase, she made a character for me. Tipsy Tipsy was a unicorn that made beer. Her cutie mark was two pints.

That's it folks! Have a great weekend and enjoy the miles.

####Thanks for reading everyone!

ATTENTION READERS!

I've been getting some more messages recently from a lot of people asking to be featured in the Friday Spotlight Thread. My response to them is the same every time. I do not get to personally choose who is chosen for each thread. With exception to Palindrome27 (which I randomly chose to get this started), every runner thus far has been selected by the person before them. It's one of the perks of getting nominated. There is no list of names. No spreadsheet with columns of people. Nothing. So for those confused, users like Philpips was chosen by Despoena. Despoena was chosen by Craigster38. So on and so on. You get the idea. Doing it this way eliminates the hassle of having to personally pick someone every week. This keeps me neutral. Some of you have expressed your opinion (via PM) on who's been featured this far claiming that I have only chosen runners who are fast, have been running for a while, or compete in longer distance races. Quite frankly, you're wrong. Just browse the table of previous athletes above and you'll see that a wide variety of runners have been on display. Being chosen is simply luck of the draw. There is zero favoritism here. Each featured runner gets to personally pick someone they find interesting. I apply no pressure to the runners to pick a particular skill level of runner. This is the beauty of the process. If you want to be featured, you can up your chances of being chosen by being an active member of the subreddit. Comment as much as possible. Submit quality content. Provide as much as you can as a runner to help keep this community growing and I'm certain your efforts will not go unnoticed. Just keep tuning in and making friends and eventually it'll pay off if you want to be featured. Thank you.
