Isekai Campaign Episode 21 - The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!

Our heroes:

• Sato - carries a katana and dreams of being a samurai
• Tobe - carries a bow and enjoys tracking and sneaking
• Okita - has two companion animals, a spark rabbit named Yokai-chan and a wind hawk named Riku-chan, and enjoys the creepy things
• Akuto - wannabe gangster who talks with his fists

Together they are The Mourning Cloaks, a silver level adventuring party.

Previously on The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!:

Four Japanese High School students were hit by a truck and brought to a magical world called Risturan by Bruni, the Goddess of Fate to be her champions. They recently saved Primri, daughter of Baron Filmelon, from bandits, and have been staying at the baron's home and having many adventures in the city.

Tonight's session:

The Cloaks arrived back at Filmelon Manor after the funeral and were met by Primri. She said that her little brother, Waiyu, was supposed to come home from the academy dorms for her birthday, but hadn't arrived yet, and asked them to come with her to pick him up. They agreed and rode with her to Filmelon Academy. Waiyu's roommate didn't know where he was, but thought he might be at Professor Itolan's study group. The party had previously heard of this study group, and wondered why everyone who attended wore hoods. The student didn't know where it was held, but thought Professor Wellig, Professor Itolan's officemate might know.

At Professor Wellig's office, Okita had Yokai-chan snatch one of the papers Wellig was grading, and used this to lure him out of the office so Tobe and Akuto could search Professor Itolan's desk. They found an old book about ancient demonic studies. They thought this was enough proof that he was involved with the demon lord cult. Akuto pocketed the book (as well as a few coppers from the desk).

After Okita got Yokai-chan "under control," they asked Professor Wellig if he knew where the special study group was. Professor Wellig decided to show the group where it was, rather than give directions through ancient buildings. Outside, it was starting to rain. Wellig led them to the basement of another building. As they got closer, they heard pounding on a door, which was Waiyu trapped in a room with a magic circle sealing the door shut. Professor Wellig drew the anti-circle and let Waiyu out. Waiyu declared that Professor Itolan was trying to summon a demon. Wellig didn't want to believe him at first, not even when Akuto and Tobe showed him the book. He was suspicious that he would lock a student in a room, though.

Waiyu led them deeper into the basement. They entered a larger room where Itolan was speaking to students kneeling in front of him. As soon as the Mourning Cloaks rushed in, he darted out of the door on his side, and activated magic circles that trapped them in the room. He then activated a magic circle on the floor of the room, which Waiyu identified as an absorption circle. After activating another circle which turned the students trapped with the Cloaks into demons, he fled up the stairs.

The Mourning cloaks fought a mighty battle against the 10 students turned demons. Wellig and Waiyu worked on inscribing the anti-circle for the large circle on the floor, which turned out to steal their health points (10 HP per turn) before they all died. Sato and Akuto found themselves surrounded by three demons at a time, but managed to deflect most of their attacks. They focused on using non-lethal blows, as they were all students. Tobe used her new blow dart and tranquilizer potion to knock out a couple of demons, and focused on making sure Professor Wellig and Waiyu were protected while they defused the circle. Okita healed people and directed her animals where they could do the most damage. Before they could finish, Professor Wellig collapsed from wounds and from having his life stolen by the circle, but Waiyu was able to finish, due to being protected by Tobe, and also due to Tobe cramming a healing potion down his throat. At the end, all of the demonic students had been defeated, and Okita had collapsed. They revived Professor Wellig, who undid the circles trapping them in the room, and the one that transformed the students.

When they asked where Professor Itolan had gone, Waiyu said that before he rushed out of the basement, he said that "storms were undependable," so he probably wanted to make use of the storm. The group decided that he was probably headed to the roof.

Lessons learned:

• Don't prepare dramatic monologues for your villains. Your players won't let him finish talking.
• Fights are the shortest part of write-ups, but they are by far the longest part of the game. About 30 minutes of our game was non-combat, and the other 1.5 hours was combat.
• If you're not ready for a big event in game, stick in a fight scene, and you'll have another week or two to prepare!
