Semi-daily hero tips. Day 52: Magnus

Tip

PREVIOUS HEROES

DISCLAIMER

A lot of you probably know about the weekly hero discussion, but that often ends up in a meta discussion (whether or not the hero needs buffs, etc) or a meme war than actual tips to play, itemize and build the hero.

This is what I'd like to do. Please discuss any notes I made and possible improvements while also giving tips of your own if you have them.

The roles, skill builds and item builds, as well as a lot of the notes are my opinion on matters and should not be seen as a must do or don't. Also remember that almost every single build or role is situationally possible.

A lot of the tips on heroes were also mentioned in tsunami's amazing hero tips series he did over the last couple of years.

Magnus

Notes:

  • Ranged allies only benefit from the bonus damage from non-aghs empower. No cleavage for luna :(
  • With aghs ranged heroes get 10/15/20/25% splash damage in a 240 AOE
  • Skewer only goes as far as you click
  • Cancel RP when you see you're going to miss (stop command)
  • Push the lane right before every 2 min mark with shockwave so you can get the rune. This goes for a lot of mid heroes
  • Versus: It might be a good idea to write down the time when RP was used. The cooldown is 120/110/100s
  • If you turn while using RP you will have the heroes in front of you so you can skewer them back straight away
  • Friends: Juggernaut, Ember, Sven, Ursa, AM (melee heroes that benefit a lot from the cleave, especially in RP), QoP, DS, all three ES's, MK, Luna, Meepo, Phoenix, SF, SK, Warlock, Tiny (wombo combo)
  • Good versus: CK, PL (illusions in close quarters), LS + Slardar (infest bomb counter initiation)
  • Counters: WW (counter initiation), TA (no DoT), LD (hard to catch out, do you really want to RP the bear?), Sniper (hard to catch more than him alone)

Role: Mid, offlane

Item build: bottle, arcanes/treads, (drums, echo sabre,) blink, (force, shadow blade, BKB, shiva's, refresher's, aghs)

Skill build: shockwave --> empower --> skewer
