Semi-daily hero tips. Day 54: Meepo

Tip

PREVIOUS HEROES

DISCLAIMER

A lot of you probably know about the weekly hero discussion, but that often ends up in a meta discussion (whether or not the hero needs buffs, etc) or a meme war than actual tips to play, itemize and build the hero.

This is what I'd like to do. Please discuss any notes I made and possible improvements while also giving tips of your own if you have them.

The roles, skill builds and item builds, as well as a lot of the notes are my opinion on matters and should not be seen as a must do or don't. Also remember that almost every single build or role is situationally possible.

A lot of the tips on heroes were also mentioned in tsunami's amazing hero tips series he did over the last couple of years.

Meepo

Notes:

  • Lane your main meepo, jungle with the others --> double the XP (sick micro? split it up further)
  • Learn to tab poof and then blink poof
  • Always try to have at least one meepo on the map. Rotate meepo's to the fountain to heal and poof them back
  • Not really viable, but you can poof to illusions owned by you
  • Your meepo's will automatically poof again after a disable unless told otherwise
  • Additional meepo's benefit from stats and boots only (which is why you always get the reaver first if you get heart)
  • Undying can only steal strength from one randomly-chosen Meepo when casting Decay, but does damage to all caught.
  • Good versus: Phoenix (ez egg kill), QoP, AM, Storm, Bara, Morphling, Void, BH (earthbind stops their movement spells/invis), Rhasta (only single target skills), Juggernaut (split up omnislash)
  • OD gains intelligence if he hits any Meepo, prime or clone. However, only the main Meepo will lose it's intelligence if hit
  • Counters: ET (+damage from every meepo with spirit), BFury Ember (cleave SoF), WW (ult), Sven (gets BKB, Cleave, AOE stun), Timber (AOE, Earthbind him to stop timber chain!), Tiny (combo early game, cleave late game, craggy), Radiance LD (AOE blind, cancels blink, you can only earthbind one most often, root stops poof), Linken's (vs hex meepo), Lesh, Jakiro (AOE), Axe (call spin)
  • Decent vs meepo: Disruptor, Sand King, Lina, Lich, Invoker, Slardar, Warlock, Shaker (as a core)
  • Zeus ult only hits the main meepo
  • Spectre creates haunt illusion for every meepo.
  • Earthbind cancels TP's. However, earthbind debuff needs to be applied after channel is started. This also means refreshing the earthbind does not help. No longer the case (/u/n0brakes)
  • You can use items on your clones (including eul's!); you can EBlade a dying Meepo in fights to micro them away safely.
  • If you get a hero against you that counters you, get sheep
  • Friends: AA (cold feet + earthbind, chilling touch on all meepo's, vortex + poof), Skywrath (slow for easy earthbind, earthbind + ult), Dazzle (heal bomb, weave works on all meepo's), Tusk (snowball to save one meepo or to initiate)
  • You can not skill anything at lvl 2 and skill both ult and lvl 2 poof if you deem that necessary (/u/marconidas). Similarly if you take no skill point at lvl 9 you can take both the talent and lvl 2 meepo ult at 10. (/u/itachifan035)
  • Against Linkens, you can upgrade a Dragon Lance to Hurricane Pike. You might wanna practice the Blink-Hex combo with Linkens-Break as well in a lobby. (/u/BlackScreensMatter)

Role: Hard carry, mid

Item build: Treads/Brown boots, Dragon Lance, Blink, BoT, (More Dragon Lances, Agh's, Skadi, Manta, Sheep, Heart, EBlade, Vlad's)

Skill build: lvl 1 net, max poof > geostrike > net. Lvl 1 poof is great to secure cs in mid lane by both threatening and harassing the enemy laner with it as well as grabbing the last hits.
