Semi-daily hero tips: Day 87: Storm Spirit

DISCLAIMER

A lot of you probably know about the weekly hero discussion, but that often ends up in a meta discussion (whether or not the hero needs buffs, etc) or a meme war than actual tips to play, itemize and build the hero.

This is what I'd like to do. Please discuss any notes I made and possible improvements while also giving tips of your own if you have them.

The roles, skill builds and item builds, as well as a lot of the notes are my opinion on matters and should not be seen as a must do or don't. Also remember that almost every single build or role is situationally possible.

A lot of the tips on heroes were also mentioned in tsunami's amazing hero tips series he did over the last couple of years.

Storm Spirit

Notes:

• Use static remnant's flying vision to find heroes that are trying to juke, scout rosh, check uphill, etc.
• If you're scared of being ganked by invis heroes, put some remnants down, they explode on contact with invis heroes
• Vortex level 3 can pull your target into the remnant you place on that spot.
• You can overload an attack projectile that has already left. Great for harassing ranged heroes and getting last hits in the process.
• Cast a remnant when you leave the fountain and TP to a tower --> free overload
• You can cast items, spells and pick up things while in ball lightning
• Avoid doing a lot of short distances when escaping with ball, do one long one.
• Ball lightning dodges things, spells like mana leak or rupture do not affect you and you can fly through chronosphere
• Counters: Earth Spirit, Puck, Silencer, Riki (Silences), Meepo, LD (roots), AM (damage based on missing mana, magic resist), IO (Good versus pickoff heroes), Huskar, Visage, Tide (have or build magic resist), Pugna (nether ward)
• Good versus: Slark, Clock (can ball lightning out of their initiation), Sniper, Zeus (Storm can easily reach back lines to kill them), Tinker, Furion (Storm can pick him off), Bloodseeker (Rupture doesn't do damage in ball lightning)
• Friends: Lifestealer (infest bombs)
• Versus: If you see storm balling to you, turn around and run in the direction he comes from
• "Who's that handsome devil?"
• Be aware of the kill potential when storm hits 6. Hide in mid lane to counter his dive if he's on the enemy team, smoke up and be ready to net a kill on mid if you are on his team.

Role: mid (, semi-carry)

Item build

• Bottle/Wand, Soul Ring, Arcanes, Bloodstone, (Orchid,) BKB/Linken's, (Sheep, Bloodthorn, Shiva's, Agh's)

Skill build: lvl 1 remnant, overload <-> remnant --> vortex
