Semi-daily hero tips. Day 102: Vengeful Spirit
DISCLAIMER
A lot of you probably know about the weekly hero discussion, but that often ends up in a meta discussion (whether or not the hero needs buffs, etc) or a meme war than actual tips to play, itemize and build the hero.
This is what I'd like to do. Please discuss any notes I made and possible improvements while also giving tips of your own if you have them.
The roles, skill builds and item builds, as well as a lot of the notes are my opinion on matters and should not be seen as a must do or don't. Also remember that almost every single build or role is situationally possible.
A lot of the tips on heroes were also mentioned in tsunami's amazing hero tips series he did over the last couple of years.
Vengeful spirit
Notes:
- Very good hero for lvl 1 roshan if you take the aura on lvl 1
- Wave of terror is great for scouting with its huge range and flying vision
- Wave of terror affects magic immune units
- VS aura amplifies damage from attributes, not from damage items
- Vlad's is a situational pickup to go with a melee carry
- Good versus: Enigma (swap black hole), Batrider (swap lasso), Techies (Wave of terror to scout for uphill mines), AA (VS can swap any ally that gets cold feet on them), Lycan (can be swapped while trying to get away), ET (swap allies out of his combo)
- Shadow blade or blink are fun for swaps
- Wave of terror debuff lasts 15 secs
- Amazing late game support with the aura
- You might want to place wards on the enemy T3 high ground so you have vision for a swap
- Friends: ET (swap or stun into stomp or ult), Slardar, TA, SF, Bristle (armor reduction + short range cc and/or burst), Dazzle (armor reduction + grave to save VS after swap)
- Counters: PL, CK, Terrorblade, Naga (Illusion based heroes), WW (great saves), Sniper (often too far away to swap or stun)
Role: Support (, carry)
Item build:
- Normal: Treads/Tranquils/Phase/Arcane boots, Wand/Urn, (Drum, Dragon Lance, HoD) Force staff/Pike, Medallion --> Crest (, Deso, Aether Lens, Vlad's, Pipe, Blink)
- Carry luxury: Skadi, BFly, BKB, Silver Edge, Daedalus, SnY, Mjollnir, AC, Satanic
Skill build: Magic missile --> Wave of terror --> Aura
